About UsConnecting Futures is an AmeriCorps program partnering with the Pawtucket School Department at Shea Senior High School and Tolman Senior High School to connect juniors and graduating high school seniors to one of five post-secondary career or education paths:
Activities to accomplish this goal include building career awareness and development, readiness for work, work and service project experience, academic remediation, and financial literacy. |
Connecting Futures involves a team of 22 AmeriCorps members-- 6 AmeriCorps VISTA for capacity building and community engagement, and 16 AmeriCorps State Members for direct service with the students. We empower the students to make successful life decisions by providing resources and counseling for college preparedness and job readiness. We primarily reach students through advisory periods twice a week, after school, and occasionally during a class, for one-on-one meetings, small group sessions and workshops.
Connecting Futures is able to successfully serve students thanks to the support of our partners: Serve Rhode Island, Blackstone Valley Community Action Program, Pawtucket Boys & Girls Club, Mayor's Office: Mayor's Advisory Council for Youth Opportunity, YouthWORKS411 Pawtucket, Pawtucket Foundation, Northern RI Chamber of Commerce, and Governor's Workforce Board.
